London’s mayor has blocked Scotland Yard’s plan to use Palantir’s AI in criminal investigations, citing serious procurement rule breaches, ethical concerns, and poor value for money.
Palantir already has UK public sector contracts, including with the NHS and Ministry of Defence. The Met has also tested the company’s AI to identify officer misconduct, which police say helped uncover dishonest behaviour.
However, the Metropolitan Police Federation criticised the technology, calling it an invasion of privacy that could damage trust and morale among officers.
