The Simpsons Movie 2 confirmed 20 years after the first film

Woohoo! Homer's coming back for seconds

20 years after the original The Simpsons movie, a sequel is officially in the works. 20th Century Studios and Disney confirmed the news on Monday, and it's set to hit theaters on 23 July 2027.

If you need a refresher: the first Simpsons Movie came out in 2007 and followed Homer as he accidentally trashed Springfield's water supply, leading the entire town to get trapped under a giant glass dome. Classic Homer move.

This new movie doesn’t have a title yet, but it’s based on the long-running Simpsons show we all know featuring Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.

The teaser poster is already making the rounds online. It shows a doughnut being snatched with the tagline: "Homer's coming back for seconds." Sounds like trouble (and donuts) are on the way.

The Simpsons actually started way back in 1987 as short cartoons on another U.S. TV show, before getting their own full series in 1989.

Created by Matt Groening, the show has been running for a wild 37 seasons and it’s not stopping anytime soon. It’s already been renewed through season 40, which is set to air in 2028/29.

The first Simpsons Movie, directed by David Silverman, was a huge hit, pulling in around $536 million worldwide. Fans have been buzzing about a possible sequel for years, but nothing was ever confirmed until now.
