Today’s post is about a aromatic and home made spice powder made with sesame seeds. Am bored of telling about how much we Telugu people are obsessed to these home made spice powders and can finish a meal with just one of these and hot steaming rice.

Nuvvula Karam Podi, a mouth-watering and delightful powder made with sesame seeds, garlic and red chilli.

Nuvvula Karam Podi mixed with Hot rice & Ghee is the amazing combination. It tastes best with Idli's & Dosas too.

  • Nuvvulu/ Sesame seeds : 1 cup
  • Endu mirchi/Dry Red chilli  : 15
  • Jeelakarra/Cumin seeds : 2 spoons
  • Vellulli rebbalu/garlic pods : 10
  • Pasupu/Turmeric : 1/4 spoon
  • Uppu/Salt

Roast sesame seeds till golden brown and fully roasted. Keep stirring while roasting to avoid it getting overburnt.

Take off the flame and leave it to cool.

In the smae pan add the red chillies, garlic pods and jeera. Fry till they darken without getting burnt. Take off the flame and leave to cool.

Grind the sesame seeds, red chillies, garlic pods, jeera, turmeric and salt asafoetida and salt till well blended.

CAUTION:

Do not over grind as the sesame seeds will let out oil and the whole mixture will get lumpy instead of having a nice powdery consistency. Just one pulse of the machine should do it.

Serve with hot rice and ghee poured generously over.

Enjoy!!!!!!
