Toyota to reveal the V8-powered GR GT supercar in December

Toyota's answer to the Aston Martin DB12 is almost here

Toyota's been ramping up the hype lately, teasing its long-awaited new supercar, but it turns out it won’t be making its big debut at the Japan Mobility Show this October after all.

Don’t worry though, the wait isn’t much longer. Toyota has dropped a countdown timer pointing to the official reveal on December 4 2025 at 9:00 PM ET. And if you want to see it in person, its public debut will happen in January 2026 at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

There's been a lot of back and forth about what badge it will wear. Some early rumors suggested the street version might be a Lexus (possibly called the LFR), while only the race car would be a Toyota. But that no longer seems to be the case. On October 10, Toyota put up a billboard at Fuji Speedway showing all three of its halo cars together with a Toyota badge and a big GR (Gazoo Racing) logo on the upcoming one. Plus, the countdown page for the reveal is hosted on the official Toyota Gazoo Racing website. So yeah, it’s definitely a Toyota.

Interestingly, this won’t be some reworked version of an existing Toyota or Lexus, it’s a completely bespoke model.  The engine could be a twin-turbo V8, and the car will likely use lots of carbon fiber over an aluminum chassis to keep the weight down.

When it finally lands, this new supercar will sit at the very top of the Gazoo Racing lineup, way above the GR86, GR Yaris, GR Corolla, and GR Supra. Toyota’s even been dropping hints about bringing back other icons like the Celica and maybe even the MR2. Oh, and a new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is also in the pipeline, supposedly versatile enough for everything from front-wheel-drive to mid-engine setups.
