Authentic SouthIndian tasty & easy Nimakaya pulihora / Lemon Rice / Chitrannam with left over rice.
One pot meal.
Lemon rice is a traditional and a popular recipe in SouthIndia popularly called as chitrannam or nimmakaya pulihora in telugu version of the recipe.
It is the easiest and a tangy flavored recipe which is basically a tempered rice often made in yellow color.
This nimmakaya pulihora is a favorite among kids and is a popular breakfast in south. It can also be made for kids lunch box and is usually accompanied by a chutney or a pickle.
This south indian pulihora is a delicious and simple one pot meal made with aromatic tempering of mustard seeds, dals, curry leaves, turmeric powder and lemon extracted juice.
- 1 cup rice cooked/left over rice (I used left over rice)
- 2 tbsp edible oil
- 1 tbsp peanuts
- 1 tsp chana dal/bengal gram
- 1 tsp urad dal/split black gram
- 3-4 vertically slit green chillies
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 2-3 dried red chillies
- 6-8 curry leaves
- 3/4 tsp turmeric powder
- salt - to taste
- 1 tbsp full lemon extracted juice
Step 1:
- Cook about 1 cup of rice. Add lemon extracted juice and salt & rest is aside for later use.
Step 2:
- Firstly, in a deep pan, add oil and heat it, add peanuts and saute well.
- Add chana dal and urad dal and stir the ingredients for few seconds.
- Add vertically slit green chillies and mix well.
- Add mustard seeds and dried red chillies and stir the ingredients, add curry leaves and allow them to crackle.
- Add turmeric powder and mix it up well, and turn off flame.
- Immediately, Pour this tempering over the rice mixture, add chopped coriander and mix every thing well.
- Serve hot with pickle or eat it plain.
