The Nehru Trophy Boat Race is Kerala's most famous annual snake boat race, held on the beautiful Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha.

It began in 1952 to welcome India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. During his visit, a special snake boat race was held, and Nadubhagam Chundan won.

Nehru was so impressed that he donated a silver trophy with his signature for future winners. Since then, the race has been held every year and has become one of Kerala's biggest tourist attractions.

Featuring over 100 oarsmen rowing magnificent Chundan Vallams (snake boats) in perfect rhythm, the event celebrates Kerala's culture, teamwork, and traditional boat racing.

Thousands of visitors gather each year to enjoy the exciting races, folk music, and festive atmosphere, making it one of India's most spectacular water festivals.

🕒 Timings: The event generally begins around 11:00 AM with preliminary races, while the main snake boat races and finals continue until approximately 4:30 PM. Spectators are advised to arrive before 9:00–10:00 AM to secure good viewing spots.
