Burning Man is an annual gathering focused on art, community, self-expression, and self-reliance. It takes place in a temporary city called Black Rock City, which is built each year in the desert and dismantled afterward, leaving the site as close as possible to its original condition.

Burning Man is not a traditional music festival. It combines:

  • Large-scale interactive art installations
  • Theme camps created by participants
  • Live music, performances, and workshops
  • Art cars (mutant vehicles)
  • Community participation and volunteering

A central tradition is the burning of a large wooden effigy ("The Man") near the end of the event, followed by the burning of the Temple, which is often a reflective and commemorative experience.

The event is guided by the Ten Principles, including radical inclusion, gifting, communal effort, civic responsibility, participation, and leaving no trace.
