Coupe Icare is the world's largest festival dedicated to free flight and light aerial sports. It has been held every September since 1974 around Saint-Hilaire-du-Touvet and Lumbin, near Grenoble. The festival is famous for its mix of sport, spectacle, and creativity, including:
- A costume flying competition ("Icarnaval"), where paraglider and hang glider pilots launch in elaborate costumes.
- Aerobatic displays featuring paragliders, hang gliders, paramotors, wingsuits, hot-air balloons, and other aircraft.
- An international free-flight film festival.
- A large trade exhibition for paragliding and aviation equipment.
- Family activities, workshops, concerts, and street performances.
The event typically attracts around 100,000 visitors and hundreds of pilots from around the world, making it one of the premier gatherings for the free-flight community.
